We wanted to share with you some tips and information about the proper use and care of masks, as well as some tips for handwashing and using hand sanitizer. There is a lot of information out there, so we have put together six helpful tips to help keep us all safe and sound.
6 Critical Tips For Mask Wearing and Hand Washing
-
Make sure your mask covers your nose and mouth without touching your lips and without large gaps or vents.
-
Mask material matters. Thin cotton t-shirts, bandannas, and scarves offer virtually no protection. If you can hold your mask up to the light and see the outline of individual fibers, it is not effective.
-
Do not place the mask around your neck or forehead as those areas may be dirty or contaminated.
-
Wash and dry your reusable masks at least daily or when dirty. Only wear disposable masks once. If you cannot wash your mask, it is recommended to place it in a paper bag for 72 hours to kill any lingering germs.
-
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after being in a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, after using a restroom, before eating, before touching your face, and before and after handling your mask.
-
If you cannot wash your hands, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Generously cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until dry. You need to completely cover your hands (like it was water) and use the friction of drying to kill as many germs as possible.
